Introduction
Drag racing has become a popular sport across North America. No matter what kind of car you drive, there is a place for you on the track. Learn how to drag race following these steps.
Instructions
Steps
Step One
Inspect your car before leaving for the race track. There should be no leaks, no problems with the brakes, tires should be properly inflated, cooling system should be in working order and the engine should be in good condition.
Step Two
Pass inspection. Before racing you will be given a number only after you have passed inspection. If you do not pass inspection your car will not be allowed on the race track. If you do not pass, you will be a reason and a chance to fix the problem.
Step Three
Line up in the pit area. There will be numbered lanes leading onto the track. You will be told which lane to start in and in what order to line up. Technicians will be directing cars from the lanes into the staging area of the track.
Step Four
Pull into the staging area. There will be one car ahead of you who will be about to race. You should wait until that car leaves the starting line before pulling onto the wet area of the track.
Step Five
Do a burnout, if you wish, on the wet area of the track. You can drive around the area if you do not want to do a burn out. Doing a burn out will get your tires sticky so you can get a better take-off.
Step Six
Roll slowly up to the staging light. There will be two staging lights to cross with your car. Look at the lights on the tree. Starting at the top there are two yellow lights, one green and one red light. You are not ready to race until both yellow lights on your side and both yellow lights on your opponents side are lit.
Step Seven
Rev your engine and hold it at the correct take-off RPM as soon as your second yellow light is lit. It will only be seconds before the green light is given.
Step Eight
Take off as soon as the green light is lit.
Step Nine
Slow down only after you cross the finish line. You will have enough distance to slow down and then exit from the track safely. There will be a road to follow back to the pit area.
Step Ten
Follow all traffic and speed limit signs on the return road and in pit areas.
Tips & Warnings
Do not ignore the technicians and track officials guiding cars onto the track. If you do not follow directions, you will be asked to leave. Safety is their number one concern, and no exceptions will be made.
